Watershed Action Plans

Watershed Existing Conditions Technical Study – 2004/2005
As the first step in the development of Watershed Action Plans, the purpose of the existing conditions study is to integrate information on watershed characteristics such as natural resources, creek hydrology, water quality, cultural resources, urban infrastructure management, land use, and jurisdictional polices.  Based on existing policy documents, research studies, and technical documents, the study also analyzes how historical activities, including land development, have contributed to current conditions, and identifies any critical information gaps.  For more information on the Existing Conditions Study, click here.

Santa Barbara’s Living Watersheds and Ocean – 2006
The Santa Barbara’s Living Watersheds and Ocean community forum included presentations on the results of the Watershed Existing Conditions Technical Study, and discussion of recommendations and next steps.  Community members that attended the forum offered feedback on technical workshop topics such as bank repair, flood proofing, reducing impermeable surfaces, and designing riparian landscapes.

Community Forums – 2004
In preparing for the Watershed Action Plans for Santa Barbara’s three major watersheds, the Creeks Division conducted community forums to identify the watershed health concerns and priorities of Santa Barbara residents in order to help focus the preparation of the watershed existing conditions studies.  These forums were also used to determine the interest of residents in additional follow-up activities such as technical workshops, creek clean-ups, and educational programs.
